Theme: Kindred Circles

The first issue of Plumfolk Zine gathers around the theme of Kindred Circles.

For many people, circles of care are small but mighty — chosen families and communities bound not always by blood, but by devotion. Their strength is revealed when hardship strikes: when resources are scarce, when access is denied, or when barriers arise. In those moments, kindred circles pull together, get creative, and carry one another through the fire.

For our October issue, we invite fiction, poetry, memoir, and visual art that highlight kindred circles — their resourcefulness in the face of scarcity, their steadfast devotion to one another, and the ferocity with which they endure.

Zine Submission Guidelines

To help us present work responsibly, all contributors must assign a content rating to their submission:
General (G): Suitable for all audiences, including younger readers.
Teen (T): Contains mild language, themes, or imagery.
Mature (M): Contains strong language, explicit themes, violence, or sexuality.
Restricted (R): Highly explicit or graphic content, not suitable for younger or sensitive readers.
Submissions without a rating will not be considered.

Plumfolk Zine asks for first publishing rights, which means we are the first place your work appears publicly. After publication, all rights return to you. If your work is later republished, we only ask that you acknowledge its first appearance in Plumfolk Zine.
We accept simultaneous submissions, but please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.
Previously published work will not be considered.
At this time, distribution of Plumfolk Zine is free and there are no paid contributions.
We hope to offer print copies to all contributors.

Written Work

Genres: fiction, poetry, or memoir.
Max Length: no more than 6,750 words (approx. 15 pages) words per fiction or memoir, 3 pages per poem.
Manuscript Format: 12pt Times New Roman, single-spaced (1.15), 1-inch margins.
File type: PDF (.pdf) or Word document (.doc or .docx).
Each submission must include your name (or pen name), title, genre, and content rating.

Visual Art

Formats: illustration, photography, digital art, or mixed media.
File type: JPEG, PNG, SVG.
Resolution: 300 dpi.
Include title, medium, and content rating.
